As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the 2024-25 Budget is delivering record education funding, including $3.6 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.

A new high school is being developed to cater for the growing population in the Wentworth Point, Sydney Olympic Park,Newington, Silverwater and Rhodes communities

The project will deliver modern facilities to support flexible learning.

The school is on track to open for Year 7 students in Term 1 2025.

Wentworth Point High School is also part of an Australian-first Culture Standard pilot program at NSW construction sites to improve facilities, working conditions and boost the number of women in construction.

After a consultation process, we are pleased to announce the name “Wentworth Point High School” has been formally accepted by the geographical names board. We thank you for your feedback.
A permanent Principal has been appointed. Hear from Melissa Johnston in our May 2024 Project update.
Planning approval has been granted to Landcom to allow the construction of the road and car park on the east of the school site.
Construction of phase one (two main buildings, amenities block and landscaping) of the high school is complete.
In order to start the construction of Phase 2 of the works (the hall and additional landscaping) we need to modify the existing State significant Development (SSD) application, which will allow us to build on the area where the old ‘Ridge Road’ was located on the Wentworth Point Peninsula Masterplan. Work is currently underway to prepare this amendment.
Enrolments for Year 7 2025 opened in March 2024. More information can be found in the FAQs on this page.

Next steps

Delivery of furniture, furnishings and equipment will continue until the end of the year in preparation for opening Day 1 Term 1 2025.
Tours of the new high school will be offered later in 2024.
Consultation with the community on uniforms and logo is continuing.
A contractor will be appointed to undertake Phase 2 of the works once the modification to the SSD has been approved. We will provide an update on the timeline for completion in the coming months.

How do I enrol?

Parents/carers can now enrol directly with the high school by completing an online application via the QR code or this link: https://edu.nsw.link/WentworthPointHS-Enrol

A paper-based application form can also be collected from any public school and submitted to the high school through your local school.

What year groups will the school open with and why?

The school is on track to open to Year 7 students in Term 1 2025. This means that in 2026 the school will cater for Year 7 and 8, and in 2027 it will cater for Year 7-9 and so on. The new high school will see its first Year 7-12 cohort in 2030. Students in older year groups will continue to be accommodated at other local schools..

An expression of interest for Year 8 enrolments was promoted in June and July 2024. While this link was shared widely, unfortunately we were unable to secure a sufficient level of interest and a decision has been made that Wentworth Point High School can only open to Year 7 in 2025. An additional Year 7 cohort will be added each year after.

This staggered enrolment process is normal for new high schools across the state. The process of growing a school allows adequate numbers of students and teaching staff to deliver a full curriculum based on the elective preferences of the students at the school. The gradual process also allows the school to develop the culture, while establishing systems and processes in consultation with key stakeholders to reflect the school’s growing identity.

What if I have an older student at another school? Can my children stay at the same school?

What is the intake area?

The intake area for Year 7 2025 is available on School Finder. To check what intake area you live in, visit schoolfinder.education.nsw.gov.au and type in your address.

This intake area is based on up-to-date enrolment figures for the area, and suitable sustainable travel options and public transport routes. The intake area may change in future years as the demographic needs shift in the area. If the demand for local enrolment exceeds the number of places available, out-of-area enrolments will not be available.

Will construction be complete for the school opening?

Construction of the Phase 1 State Significant Development (SSD) approved works, (the two main buildings, amenities block and landscaping) will be complete for the school opening on Day 1 Term 1 2025.

In order to start the construction of Phase 2 of the works (the hall and additional landscaping) we need to modify the existing SSD application, which will allow us to build on the area where the old ‘Ridge Road’ was located on the Wentworth Point Peninsula Masterplan.

Until Phase 2 works are complete, the school will use the movement studio and library as temporary spaces for assemblies. Students will have access to the movement studio, fitness studio and sports courts for Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) and the school will make arrangements for access to playing fields as required.

School Infrastructure will work with the contractor to ensure that construction impacts to the school and wider community are minimised.

Community consultation update

In June this year we undertook a survey on the values, uniform, logo, compulsory language and operational hours for the new high school.

When asked about ideas for the logo, some common ideas and preferences arose, which formed the basis for the ongoing design development. These included:

Local flora and fauna
The location on the Parramatta River
A shield shape
Traditional and modern logo designs.

Interested community members were able to opt in to ongoing consultation or to submit logo ideas for consideration. After a number of design workshops incorporating the feedback from recent surveys about styles and ideas, some logo concepts have now been developed by a local designer.

We are now seeking your feedback on logo concepts for a formal and shorter initials logo that have been developed.

Feedback will be considered before the logo is finalised and goes into production on the uniform and is finalised for all other logo placement. We will share the final logo with the community when finalised.

PAST CONSULTATIONS

In June 2024 we undertook a survey on the values, uniform, logo, compulsory language and operational hours for the new high school. 268 parents, students and community members provided feedback.

When asked about uniform preferences, the majority of responses highlighted the desire for:

A uniform more formal in nature to reflect the values of the community.
High quality uniform items.
Flexible clothing options for use throughout the year to provide students with choice.

Interested community members were able to opt in to ongoing consultation on both the school uniform and logo. A number of uniform companies were consulted, a preferred supplier was found, and uniform options workshopped with the community before proposed designs were developed.

Consultation on the school logo is still underway and has not yet been designed. Decisions on formation of school values, operational hours and compulsory languages have not yet been made. We will keep the community informed as these items progress.

The opening of a new school provides an opportunity to create new school values and make decisions about how the school will operate for years to come. It is a unique time for the community to help inform the decision making for the new high school.

A survey closed Sunday 7 July 2024. Further consultation with interested stakeholders is currently underway.
