As part of the NSW Government’s plan to rebuild public education, the 2024-25 Budget is delivering record education funding, including $8.9 billion for new and upgraded schools. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.
A project is underway to upgrade Hunter River High School to bring students the latest educational facilities and support the local community.

Complete
There has been significant progress on construction during Term 3. Scaffolding has been erected for the new gymnasium (Block Y). Lightweight and structural steel have been installed as well as the upper roof and some roof sheeting to the lower roof. Internally, wall framing and sheeting have started as well as installation of cabling for services. Face brickwork and the façade work on the building have also started.
Works have also been going well on the new administration building (Block X) and the new support learning hub (Block Z). The blockwork piers and walls are finished, and the perimeter scaffold and structural steel beams have been installed. The ground-floor suspended concrete slab has been poured and lightweight framing and structural steel work have started.
Block Y:

Block Z and Block X:
complete lightweight and structural steel installation and roof sheeting

Completion timeline
We are working to deliver these new facilities as quickly as possible. Our current expectation is that they will be finished by late-2025, but we will continue to look at opportunities to accelerate this wherever possible.
