As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the 2025-26 Budget is delivering $2.1 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.
A project is underway to upgrade Hunter River High School to bring students the latest educational facilities and support the local community.

We are excited to have achieved a major milestone in the Hunter River High School upgrade with new facilities now ready for students and staff to use. The upgrade has delivered:
new administration building (Block X)
new support learning hub with 8 support classrooms (Block Z)
new double height gymnasium (Block Y)
refurbished food technology classroom (Block H).
Works are continuing to complete the upgrade as soon as possible. Remaining refurbishment works include converting the existing administration building into a wellbeing hub, and converting the hospitality kitchen in Block C into a new visual arts space.
The upgraded sports field, new internal service road and expansion of the staff car park are also due to be delivered during Term 3 2025.
