We regularly inspect and maintain schools as part of a comprehensive and ongoing program to keep school assets in optimal condition and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our school community across more than 2200 NSW schools.

The school holidays are the ideal time for a lot of maintenance and project work to take place in schools without disrupting learning.

Planned work over the school holidays at some schools may involve working with hazardous materials such as asbestos or lead. This may include proactive inspection, sampling, remediation or removal of the material.

Below are lists of schools that have work involving hazardous materials taking place during the upcoming school holiday period. Some schools receive more detailed communication about work taking place at their school. In these instances, communications are published on the SINSW school webpage (use the search bar on this website to find your school).

Check the list to find out if your school is included. All external work is subject to weather conditions. Please note:

ACM refers to “asbestos-containing materials”.
Safety measures, including air monitoring and fencing, will be in place as advised by the independent hygienist.

Bemboka Public School	Replacement of a broken wall sheet in the electrical distribution board cupboard (Building A). Additional works in the adjacent sick bay room (also Building A) will address termite damage in its distribution board cupboard.	An independent hygienist collected samples from the wall sheeting on 5 November 2024, which confirmed it does not contain asbestos. Sick bay works are non-hazmat related.
Beverly HIlls Girls High School	Installing a new shade structure over the table tennis area between demountable buildings.	No hazmat.
Bidwill Public School	Preparation work for interior painting in girls and boys toilets in Building B, girls toilets in Building C and boys toilets and movement area in Building E. Fingal Head Public School	Removal and replacement of the Building H roof sheets and gutters.	No hazmat.
Finley Public School	Replacement of flooring, refurbishment of stormwater service and repainting throughout Building J. Forbes High School	Testing of vermiculite ceilings and walls in Building B.	Sampling and testing of possible ACM in multiple rooms in Building B.
Forest Hill Public School	Celing replacement in the canteen demountable.	Cracks in the ceiling were identified in March 2024 and encapsulated in April. Following an independent hygienist's recommendation, the ceiling - which contains bonded asbestos - will now be replaced. Material is undisturbed and in good condition.

Picnic Point Public School	Installation of an accessible bathroom and ramps on the southern side of Buildings B and I	Bonded asbestos was discovered during excavation for planned work. The ground has been encapsulated with geo fabric and black plastic, with temporary fencing in place around the area. Remediation advice will be provided by an independent hygienist and carried out during the holiday period, if required.
Pottsville Beach Public School	Installation of hallway doors in Building E and replacement of the metal beams in the covered outdoor learning area.	No hazmat.
Quirindi High School	Remediation of lead-based paint coated on a storage shed in the agricultural plot.	Remediation will include chemically stripping the paint from the front and two side walls. The rear wall will have a wet scrape and sand, followed by repainting with non-lead-based paint across the entire building. Safety meaures including air monitoring will be in place throughout the process. Material currently undisturbed and in good condition.
Randwick Public School	Installing cabinets and joinery in a storeroom and stairwell in Building A. Removing cupboards and bench from home room in Building H. Updating an existing kitchen and installing cupboards and joining in clerical office in Building I.	No hazmat.

Smithfield Public School	Replacing deteriorating retaining walls (between sports court and playground areas) with concrete sleepers, installing a geofabric covering over the soil and synthetic turf overlay.	In-ground ACM found in the soil during work planning, which will be encapsulated with a fabric lining and covered with synthetic turf.
Smiths Hill High School	Testing of vermiculite ceilings and walls in Building A.	Sampling and testing of possible ACM in the teacher’s aide room, entryway, and movement area in Building A.
South Coogee Public School	Replacing flooring across the school, including vinyl floor tiles in rooms in Buildings A, C and D.	Removal of existing vinyl flooring which contains bonded asbestos from 9 rooms in Building A, one room in Building C and one room in Building D. Material currently undisturbed and in good condition.
South Grafton High School	Replacing vinyl floor tiles from Building C.	Removing around 20 square metres of asbestos vinyl floor tiles in Building C Technology and Applied Studies workshop storerooms. Material is undisturbed and in good condition.

The Channon Public School	Refurbishment of school canteen in Building C, including installation of new wall, ceiling sheeting, flooring, doors, security mesh, cabinetry, LED lighting, appliances, and three-phase power.	Removal of 16 square metres of bonded asbestos ceiling sheeting in Building C. Material is undisturbed and in good condition.
Thirroul Public School	Planned remediation of grassed playground area and installation of a concrete sleeper retaining wall, along the school's northern boundary, to prevent soil erosion.	Soil, which contains bonded ACM, will be encapsulated by covering with a fabric lining, topping it with a clean soil overlay and new turf. Mulch will be added to the newly retained area, located at the northern boundary.
Turramurra High School	Flooring replacement of 4 rooms in Building D, 2 music storerooms and a music classroom in Building E, and 4 rooms in Building A.	Removal of existing vinyl flooring which contains bonded ACM. Material currently undisturbed and in good condition.
Villawood East Public School	Refurbishment of the Building J girls' toilet block, including new lighting.	The ceiling is suspected to contain bonded ACM, as listed in the school's asbestos register.
Waratah West Public School	Roof replacement of Building H.	Removal of eave linings and ceiling void which contains bonded ACM. Remediation of the roof cavity which contains encapsulated lead. Material currently undisturbed and in good condition.
Warialda High School	Multiple planned upgrade works including, construction of a wheelchair-accessible clinic room in the Building A staff room, installation of a room divider in a Building A classroom, installation of a new accessible disabled toilet suite in Building G toilet, installation and painting of new and existing safety posts at various pathway locations.	Removal of existing vinyl flooring which contains bonded asbestos, from boys' clinic room in Building A. The tiles, which are listed on the school's asbestos register, are currently undisturbed and in good condition.
Warrawong High School	Removing carpet, underlay and vinyl flooring from the Building B staffroom and hallway, replacing with new floor coverings. Removal of existing vinyl tiles and glue in the staffroom, Building D.	Planned remediation of the vinyl tile flooring, known to contain bonded ACM as listed in the school's asbestos register, which is undisturbed and in good condition. Removal of vinyl flooring and glue, which contain bonded asbestos. Material currently undisturbed and in good condition.
Waverley Public School	Removal and replacement of vinyl flooring in after school care room in Building B.	Removal and replacement of vinyl floor which contains glue known to contain bonded asbestos. Material is undisturbed and in good condition.
Wee Waa Public School	Removal of lead paint from timber sash windows in 4 classrooms and a music storeroom in Building B.	Lead-based paint will be chemically removed from timber window frame, which will be repainted with water-based paint.
Westport Public School	Replacement of the partitions in the boys and girls bathrooms in the Library Building (Building H).	Removal and replacement of the toilet partitions known to contain bonded asbestos located in the boys and girls bathrooms in the Library (Building H). Material is undisturbed and in good condition.
Wilkins Public School	Installing mesh screens on the level 1 balcony of Building A.	No hazmat.
Woy Woy Public School	Fencing replacement works. A section of new 1.8 metre high security fencing will be installed with panels added to prevent climb points.	Removal and replacement of internal fencing for a student breakout space, central to the school site. Fencing work is planned to take place on Saturdays in the holiday period in an area where bonded ACM fragments have been found in-ground in the past.
Yarrawarrah Public School	Installing covered walkways throughout the school.	The entire site is listed on Site Specific Asbestos Management Plan. Excavation is required that may disturb inground asbestos. Hygienist will be on site for air monitoring. Material currently undisturbed and in good condition.
Young High School	Testing of vermiculite ceilings and walls in the science building.	Sampling and testing in the movement area, outside the staff study, on the ground floor of the science building.
