Yes. The preschool needs are being considered as part of planning and design for the rebuild, in consultation with the school.

It is our intention to rebuild back at the Lismore South Public School site. A planning application will be prepared and submitted to rebuild Lismore South Public School on its existing school site.

Rebuilding the school is subject to receiving planning approval from the  Department of Planning Housing and Infrastructure.

All buildings at Lismore South Public School were extensively damaged by the floods and will be replaced by new buildings. Demolition of the flood damaged buildings will form part of the planning application.

All of the buildings will be raised 1.2 metres higher than flood levels expected during a one in 500-year flood, and 0.5 metres higher than the flood levels reached in 2022, to ensure the school is resilient against future flooding.

Due to the value of the rebuild, the application to rebuild Lismore South Public School will be lodged as a State Significant Development Application (SSDA), which means it will be assessed by the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

We are hoping to lodge the SSDA by mid-2024. Once planning approval is in place we expect construction to take 18 months.

Consultation with the school community was undertaken in early November 2023. This included facilitated workshops with staff, parents and students, as well as an online survey for the school community.
