Due to strong population growth in the area, the current school doesn’t have enough permanent classrooms to meet demand for public school enrolments.
The department initially planned to upgrade the existing school to add new permanent classrooms. During site investigations, a significant number of Aboriginal artefacts were found, triggering an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment. The outcome of the assessment was granting of an Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) which imposes compliance conditions over activities permitted at the existing school site.
In consideration of this and other factors, the department determined the best option to meet current and projected enrolment demand in Lennox Head was to relocate the school to new facilities on an appropriate new site. .
Relocating the school will provide the Lennox Head students and teachers with all new learning spaces, facilities and outdoor areas to meet the needs of the community now and into the future.
