New site secured for Lennox Head Public School

A new site has been secured for the relocation of Lennox Head Public School, where a new school will be built to meet the growing local demand for public school enrolments.
Located at the corner of Montwood and Snapper Drives, the new site provides ample space for a new school and is located close to housing and local amenities.
The new school will provide more permanent, flexible learning spaces than the current school and new larger core school facilities including a hall, library, canteen and outdoor areas.
Work to finalise the business case and progress the design of the new school will continue now that the new site has been secured.
A project reference group, which includes parents and staff representatives, has been established to provide feedback on the design of the school as it progresses.
Once the new school is built, students and teachers will relocate from the current site, which has been recognised as a highly significant Aboriginal cultural heritage site with the discovery of artefacts.
The cultural and historical importance of the current site has been emphasised throughout with continuous engagement between the department and representatives of the local Aboriginal community.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“This is great news for the Lennox Head Public School community.
“Now that we have confirmed a new home for the school, works can progress on plans for the new and improved school.
“I want to acknowledge the patience and cooperation of those involved including Ballina Shire Council, Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council, and the school and local community.
“I also want to pay tribute to the school community and the local member, Tamara Smith, who knows the benefits that a new school will deliver.”
