Karuah Public School
Karuah Public School is located in the heart of Karuah and is pleasantly situated adjacent to the Karuah River. The school serves a diverse community, drawing students from Karuah Township, neighbouring Swan Bay, North Arm Cove, Carrington and Tahlee Bible College. The Karuah Public School motto 'Look, Listen and Learn' is evident in our aim to develop all students to their full potential. The school provides a sound foundation in the basic skills and promotes active participation and excellence in all academic, social and physical endeavours. The strengthening of the partnership that exists between students, staff and parents has been a focus for the school and is recognised and valued by all in our school community. Karuah Public School has a large proportion of students who identify as Aboriginal and many of our programs reflect the need to create an even playing field for all and to give all students the opportunity to succeed. The school plays an important role in the community by providing opportunities for family and community members to share their skills and experiences. Cultural dancing, vibrant NAIDOC and Harmony days are a showcase for the rich cultural diversity that occurs in the Karuah area. The school achieves its mission by delivering quality programs such as Accelerated Literacy (AL), Count Me In Too (CMIT), Literacy on Track (LOT), Language Literacy Learning (L3), Best Start, Targeted Numeracy Teaching (TNT) and the Kindy at Karuah transition program. These programs provide teaching staff with valuable professional learning, enabling them to assess and then plan teaching according to the needs of their students. Programs such as L3, Best Start and TNT provide our students with specific small group instruction in the early years, building a solid framework for future learning. Karuah Public School is a National Partnerships school and is part of the Priority schools program. This additional funding is used to support these quality programs and provides modern recources to support daily teaching in the classroom.
