About the First Nations Engagement in School Infrastructure (FNESI) program

The First Nations Engagement in School Infrastructure (FNESI) program is committed to increasing the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, people and communities in the delivery and maintenance of our public schools and educational facilities.

The program also focuses on creating brighter futures for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by working with NSW public schools and partner networks to provide culturally safe connections and pathways for young people to explore future work options or help those ready to begin their career journey.

Our commitment to Reconciliation

On 31 May 2023, the NSW Department of Education launched its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan solidifying its commitment to strengthening relationships with, and employment opportunities for, Aboriginal people, communities and organisations.

The First Nations Engagement in School Infrastructure program will have a localised regional, rural, remote and urban approach to reconciliation. We are committed to procuring local resources and services delivered by Aboriginal people. We are also extending that commitment to offering training and sustainable and local employment pathways for Aboriginal school students.
