About the FNESI program

School Infrastructure maintains an extensive portfolio of public schools across NSW creating a number of opportunities for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses and trades to deliver meaningful work in local communities.

The FNESI team works with local businesses and partners to support business growth and employment opportunities – building skills, creating opportunities for apprenticeships and traineeships and offering meaningful experiences for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students considering a career in trades and construction.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a lot of paperwork if I want to participate? 

We make every attempt to reduce the administrative requirements if you choose to participate. You will need to submit a tender outlining things like your rates. We will also need to verify business registration, insurance and associated documentation. We have an Aboriginal team who can assist you with the administration if required. 

Do I need to prove my Aboriginality? 

Businesses seeking to be a part of the program will need to demonstrate their Aboriginality. You can do this by registering with NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce or Supply Nation. Our team will provide assistance if required. 

Will mainstream businesses who employ Aboriginal staff benefit from the FNESI program?  

The FNESI program is about creating employment opportunities and enhancing economic outcomes for Aboriginal people. Mainstream and Aboriginal businesses who employ Aboriginal people are working toward these objectives and will also benefit under the FNESI program.
