St Clair High School

St Clair High School is a multi-award-winning school which offers quality, comprehensive educational programs aimed at the development of well-educated, self-motivated, responsible young adults. It does this in a caring atmosphere where mutual respect and self-discipline are encouraged. Talent is nurtured, learning difficulties addressed, physical disabilities are not a hardship, personal welfare is important, learning is valued, and participative decision-making includes pupils, parents, community and staff. The school has a vibrant 'Gifted and Talented' program as well as extra-curricular programs in both girls' and boys' education. An active Student Representative Council also features prominently. The Senior curriculum, incorporating industry-specific studies, caters for students who aspire to university as well as those who do not. Of particular note is the school's outstanding performance for several years in the prestigious Australian Business Week (ABW) competition. At St Clair High all Year 11 students participate in this week long, intensive learning experience which equips them with diverse leadership and business skills. ABW is also a national competition open to all schools in Australia. St Clair High has experienced enormous success in this competition including winning multiple National awards in all major categories. The concept of 'Personal Best' underpins all areas of the school operation and relates to all students as well as all staff. This is central to the school's delivery of excellence, and its widespread recognition. The school is a proud partner in the 'St Clair Erskine Park Schools' (STEPS) partnership and is an active contributor to professional learning and student- based initiatives with each of the seven schools. The strategic planning and resourcing of the school works towards the delivery of three strategic directions; Student learning, professional learning and building capacity at all levels and school wellbeing. The school plays an important part in the community and is proud to be the school of choice in the St Clair area. Reflective of the school's place in the community is that its facilities are used extensively by other groups. Nepean Community College uses the school facilities to provide various adult education evening classes for the local community. Other regular school users include Church groups, Nepean Physical Culture Club and St Clair Football Club. The school has very successful transition programs for students moving from Year 6 into Year 7, and also for those moving from Year 10 into 11. These are significant moments in the life of students and support for them at this time is vital. St Clair High is renowned for the quality of its staff and places a strong emphasis on teacher learning and leadership development. The school and / or its leaders have been awarded multiple major awards from various prestigious professional associations. A strong partnership with Western Sydney University is in place which yields significant benefits for students and staff. In 2014, after a devastating fire, the school has focused on rebuilding its main learning areas. With the extensive support of the Department of Education and the NSW State Government there is a determination to build a state of the art educational environment unique to this part of Western Sydney. A university style innovation centre has been approved and building is expected to commence in the middle of 2017. This is a quality school with a long and proud tradition of producing high achieving students, with the capacity to make a valuable contribution to our broader society.
