Melville High School
Melville High School is a comprehensive, coeducational school which offers a caring and positive environment in which students are encouraged to achieve in a variety of fields. The school provides opportunities in academic, sporting, cultural, creative and technology learning areas and implements programs to develop social and vocational skills. All students at the school are encouraged to complete their Higher School Certificate following either an academic or vocational pathway. In the junior years, students follow a prescribed pattern of study and as they progress through their schooling there becomes available a large range of traditional, non traditional and vocational courses to choose from. Melville offers the most extensive range of courses available to any high school in the Macleay and all are taught by experienced and qualified professional teachers. Over the years many Melville students have demonstrated high levels of achievement and improvement in the statewide literacy and numeracy programs and results in the SC and HSC are comparable and often superior to those achieved by other schools with student cohorts from similar backgrounds. In 2013, a Melville High student achieved an ATAR of 99.7, the highest of any school, Public or Private in the North Coast region. Student support structures emphasise effective learning, student welfare and discipline, and student success is widely recognised and publicly celebrated. Our school values encourage students to "Do It Right". Our staff teach Respect, Industriousness, Growth to maturity, Healthy lifestyles, and Teamwork in all settings. In 2015, Melville is implementing a Clontarf Academy to support and improve associated educational disadvantage withing Aboriginal boys, programs are based on football and attendance. The funds allocated in the Resource Allocation Model are being targeted at programs in literacy and numeracy; building stronger links with parents and the community; engaging students through quality teaching and the improvement of Leadership practices. The school boasts a modern, attractive campus to support student learning. It includes: well-resourced teaching spaces with wireless internet access throughout; twenty classrooms fitted with electronic whiteboards; a library which supports traditional and electronic research and four computer laboratories; outstanding learning spaces for the delivery of physical education, technology and the creative arts; five new science laboratories and a marine studies facility. In 2011, a trade training centre was added to the existing campus to support a growing range of vocational studies in Construction. With P & C support an upgrade is underway in the Hospitality and fitness areas.
