South Sydney High School is a co-educational and comprehensive high school in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, with an enrolment of approximately 600 students. South Sydney High School is an inclusive learning community that inspires success, pride and a sense of belonging for all. We provide a creative, academically challenging learning environment that allows our students to strive for excellence.We foster resilience and success in academic, cultural and sporting endeavours to develop students into active and informed global citizens.Our aim is to encourage all students to reach their full potential. We foster a lasting respect for learning and knowledge and we seek to equip students with the skills to live and work in a changing world and we aim to provide a high quality education focused on comprehensive teaching and learning opportunities.Our focus is on enhancing the literacy and numeracy of students, on improving their capacity in ICT and problem solving and on providing opportunities for them to participate and excel in the physical and creative fields. We are mindful that our students need to become active citizens of a democratic Australia, aware of their social obligations to the communities in which they live. They need to acquire the flexibility and research skills which will equip them to work in an environment in a state of flux. In order to achieve our goals, we provide a safe and supportive learning environment, in which endeavour and success are valued and respect is accorded to all. We want our students to have a sense of belonging to their school and pride themselves on the good name of South Sydney High School. Care, opportunity and success underpin our philosophy at South Sydney High School. These values are reflected in the school systems, relationships between students, teachers and parents and the learning environment.Currently, we are prioritising raising our school's profile in the community. To that end we have engaged in a wide variety of programs and with many organisations. These include: local feeder schools, the NSW Premiers Volunteer Program; the Beacon Foundation; Souths Cares as well as participating in debating and academic competitions. We have also established a successful Enrichment program with Year 5 and year 6 students from local feeder schools  and have put in place an Enrichment Stream for Year 7 students in 2015. Many extra-curricular activities are made available to our students, including a number of school bands, gifter and tealented club and a drama program. We strongly encourage participation in sports and take part in numerous inter school competitions, including several knock out events and swimming and athletic carnivals. The school has a strong leadership program, including a Student Representative Council and an active Prefect body. Our student leaders have a high profile within the school and all students are given every encouragement through our Recognition System and our Principal's Awards Scheme. The good standing and reputation of our school has resulted in increasing numbers of International Students opting to study at South Sydney High School. We also regularly host international visitors at our school. To facilitate learning, thirty two interactive whiteboards have been installed in our classrooms and students have access to laptop computers. In addition to our qualified, experienced and deidicated teaching staff, we have a trained counsellor, Student Support Officer and a Head Teacher  Student Services who work closely with our welfare team to provide a support network that is widely regarded as best practice. South Sydney High School provides an outstanding learning environment. Our well equipped technology rich facilities enhance learning and inspire and engage our learners.Our facilities include: - Extensive access to technology, the whole school is  networked enabling every classroom to have access to the internet and other network capabilities. - Interactive smartboards in most classrooms. - A well equipped Library and Career Information Centre. - Two food technology kitchens, including one commercial and two  textiles rooms. - A business services working office. - Six fully equipped and refurbished science laboratories. - Creative and performing arts spaces, including:         - well equipped art rooms with pottery and kiln facilities        - a computer laboratory designed for Digital Imaging        - two fully equipped music rooms and a specialist drama room. - An Industrial Arts unit that includes fully equipped wood work, metal work, electronics and technical drawing rooms. - An indoor gymnasium containing Olympic size court, with electronic scoreboard that can be used for  basketball or volleyball.
