Narrabeen Sports High School is committed to delivering quality public education to develop the individual talents, interests and abilities of the staff, students and citizens who form its learning community. Our aim is to be recognised as a vibrant and responsive public school, working collaboratively within the public education system to produce well educated citizens with the capability and confidence to succeed in the twenty-first century. Narrabeen Sports High School aims to be the first choice of secondary school for its local community. The school is first and foremost a local, comprehensive public secondary school. It provides the full range of academic and cultural programs. As well, it offers an excellent sports program. The school caters for students of all ability levels and interests. Local students who are not particularly interested in sport should have no concerns enrolling in Narrabeen Sports High as our primary aim is to be a high quality local secondary school for all students of all interests and abilities. The core values of the school are: respect, responsibility and success. The school includes the Northern Sydney Scholastic and Sports Academy which was established in 2012. The Academy operates in unison with the academic and social framework of the school curriculum. The Academy offers a selective program for elite and emerging elite athletes. Students access high quality sports coaching and are supported through an individual mentoring program which aims to ensure each student achieves high level outcomes in academic, cultural and sporting domains. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum the school also offers a variety of Vocational and Educational Training courses including Certificate 2 Sport and Recreation, Certificate 3 Trade and Construction through a state of the art Trade Training Centre and Certificate 2 Hospitality through state of the art commercial grade kitchens. The school has developed high quality facilities through unique partnerships with local businesses. These include first class tennis courts and a strength and conditioning room supervised by a qualified personal trainer. In 2012 Pittwater Council provided funds for a major upgrade to the school sports fields. In 2013 the school will enjoy a turf football field and a unique synthetic dual purpose AFL and football field. These include lighting and high quality change room facilities. These facilities demonstrate that the school works closely with its local community where facilities are available to the entire community all year round. These partnerships allow students access to high quality programs and expand learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Narrabeen Sports High School is also a partner in the Peninsula Community of Schools which includes 13 local promary and secondary schools. Senior curriculum options are enhanced through a shared curriculum structure involving Narrabeen Sports, Pittwater and Barrenjoey high schools. Narrabeen Sports High School also has many partnership programs with local primary schools involving leadership, enrichment and transition opportunities. The school also has an Enrichment class in year 7. Places in this class are offered following an external selection examination conducted by the Peninsula Community of Schools and submission of work portfolios. The school has extensive facilities which are leased to private and community enterprises. The Pittwater Sports Centre, the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre and the Manly Community College all operate within the precinct of the school. Students selected into the Northern Sydney Scholastic and Sports Academy pay a fee that covers payment to coaches. This income stream is included in the global financial information presented in the My School material and distorts the community contributions quantum. When read against expenditures which are not itemised in this global data a more realistic figure could be obtained. Much of the income included in the community contributions component is simply a fee for service that comes in and flows straight out. It does not create a fund available for other school purposes. Narrabeen Sports High School consistently records very strong growth outcomes for its students. With an enrolment of approximately 400 students cohort data will vary from year to year as individual year groups are relatively small. A great strength of Narrabeen Sports High School is the personalised learning programs and individual support offered to students. The school is well known for its caring and nurturing environment. Narrabeen Sports High School has experienced steady enrolment growth over the past few years and this is projected to increase over coming years.
