Moorebank High School
Moorebank High School is a year 7-12 coeducational selective and comprehensive school situated in south western Sydney with an enrolment of 1040 students. This year the school has received transitional funding following three years on the Smarter Schools National Partnership - Low SES program. The resources this program brings allow for the provision of additional staffing that support the school's mission of providing outstanding learning experiences that support students to demonstrate personal excellence and develop the knowledge and skills that will equip them for the demands of an ever-changing world. The school serves a diverse community, with 59% of students coming from language backgrounds other than English. The broad, differentiated and balanced curriculum aims to cater for individual and divergent learning needs and interests at the school. All teachers have undertaken significant professional learning in the area of gifted and talented education to ensure students are challenged and engaged in a stimulating and caring environment. Over the past three years, at least 75% of students leaving at the end of year 12 go onto further study at university and TAFE, and the school aims to increase this proportion over the next three years by providing additional support for students in the later years of schooling coupled with high academic expectations, quality teaching and enhanced leadership opportunities. Moorebank High School has an exemplary student leadership program, which includes Prefects, Interact, House Representatives, SRC, Environmental Leaders, Peer Support, Peer Reading and Peer Numeracy Leaders. Six students over the past nine years have been awarded with the Minister's Award for Excellence in Student Achievement. Students also excel in the area of sport, with several students competing at a state and national level in sports as diverse as soccer, trampolining, martial arts and rugby league. Students are also supported at the school through the services of a dedicated welfare team. Successes in the creative and erforming arts are also substantial at the school. In 2013, two singers, five musicians and four visual artists were selected through a regional talent identification program to perform at significant DEC events. The school's participation in the Chaplaincy program is an important addition to this team of year advisors and counselors. The growing focus on understanding and promoting student wellbeing in order to allow students to develop strong and positive relationships with students and staff fortifies the school's culture of achievement through care and support. Moorebank High School has deepened its relationship with Chipping Norton, Newbridge Heights and Nuwarra Primary Schools, its three partner primary schools. Joint planning and program delivery in the areas of literacy, numeracy and transition enhance curriculum continuity that support students as they move from primary to high school. The school also has a partnership with three other partially selective high schools. This partnership between Bonnyrigg, Elizabeth Macarthur, Moorebank and Prairiewood High Schools is known as COS4 and involves joint professional learning for staff members that support quality differentiation practices and quality teaching in the context of blended schools.
