Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School
Granville South High Creative and Performing Arts High School is a Year 7–12 partially selective coeducational school, with a selective stream of students gifted and talented in the Creative and Performing Arts. The school is situated twenty five kilometres west of Sydney in the Guildford area of South Western Sydney Region. The school provides quality education for students drawn predominantly from the low socio-economic areas of Guildford, Merrylands, Granville and Auburn. There is approximately 565 students enrolled. Ten students identify as being Aboriginal. There are over 47 different language backgrounds represented in the school with approximately 83% of students from language backgrounds other than English (where English is not the first language spoken at home). Our Strategic Directions are Learning, Leading and Teaching. The school aims to encourage all students to pursue personal excellence and develop the knowledge and skills that will equip them for their future vocational and academic aspirations. This is achieved in an enthusiastic, caring school environment supported by numerous program initiatives such as Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). Student participation and success underpins the school's philosophy of effective quality teaching and learning, in an atmosphere of high expectations, strong values and mutual respect. The school has a Special Education unit with 2 classes for students with moderate intellectual disability and 3 classes for students with mild intellectual disability which are also an integral part of our school community. The school's focus is on improving student outcomes through quality teaching practices underpinned by targeted whole-school teacher professional learning. We are committed to developing a learning culture which emphasises critical thinking and ensures students develop self-discipline in their study habits. Our welfare system provides a safe, respectful and caring learning environment, encourages personal excellence, promotes relevant learning experiences and supports student participation and success. The school has many partnerships to compliment wellbeing and learning, including Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN), Creating Chances, UNSW, WSU, Woodville Alliance, GMCC, PCYC and AYC. The school operates a Creative and Performing Arts selective stream enabling talented students from years 7 to 12 to work together in a selective stream of either Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts or Circus. The school believes students with a talent in the Creative and Performing Arts need to learn with like-minded children guided by teachers who have a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. The school participates in the Schools Spectacular and Our Spectacular.
