South Grafton High School

South Grafton High School is a rural, comprehensive, co-educational high school in the Clarence Valley. 21% of our students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. With "Excellence and Innovation" central to our ethos, we aim to provide a vibrant learning community where all students are able to excel. The school is part of the Grafton Community of Schools, that allows the community to cater for student need through a collaborative decision-making cycle. The school seeks to be firmly grounded in our local community with strong links to universities, TAFE, local business, charities and residents groups. We aim to provide opportunities that allow students to develop a high standard of excellence and provide equity of opportunity for all members of our school. We provide a curriculum that is relevant and adequately resourced to meet the full range of students' needs, including the use of technology. Our wellbeing and teaching and learning structures support Quality Teaching and are centred on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) with the core goals of personal best, taking responsibility, showing respect and staying safe. Students are able to develop as happy, caring and confident members of society in a safe environment. Our teaching programs cater for gifted and talented students through programs such as the Year 5 and 6 Clarence Science Initiative, our Self Select and Platinum classes in 7-12, eGATS and Tournament of the Minds. Our enhancement programs support students in numeracy through Djehuti Smart and in literacy through Peer Tutor Reading and Intensive Literacy classes. We have active Student Representative Council, SLIKK (Student Leadership is for Koori Kids) and SMILE (Support, Mentor, Inspire, Listen, Encourage) teams who manage many events within the school as well as working in the local community. The school offers three support classes and an on site distance education class. Our school excels in providing learning environments that cater for individual student learning needs. We are a balanced school with sport, academic, extra-curricular and cultural experiences available for all students.
