Yass High School
As a comprehensive public school established in 1958, Yass High has a proud heritage of successfully educating the full range of young people from its growing urban and rural community which increasingly includes commuters from the national capital. In 2016 our school has an enrolment of over 500 students. As well as a full curriculum with extensive academic and vocational options through to the HSC, Yass High traditionally provides excellent agricultural, sporting, musical, artistic and cultural experiences with close community links. The newly opened Integrated Learning spaces compliment project based learning programs and the Trade Skills Centre provides trade qualifications in Hospitality, Construction, Metals and Engineering, Information Technology and Primary Industries. There is a healthy balance of dedicated, knowledgeable, very-experienced staff and talented and keen early career teachers: all are well-qualified, dynamic professionals who constantly update their approach to meet the needs of an ever-changing society. The school's extensive professional learning structures including Quality Teaching Rounds are enhanced by its leading membership of the Burrinjuck Community of Schools through which many professional learning programs are developed and shared. The school is proud of its rigorous welfare and wellbeing support structures promoting "Respect,Responsibility, Safety and Learning" which include a full Student Leadership Program, Peer Support and an effective transition program with partner schools to safeguard student learning continuity and sense of belonging as they enter high school. At Yass High School we encourage all students to take responsibility for their own learning. We emphasise the development of literacy, numeracy and technology skills in a safe and harmonious learning environment.
