Kogarah High School
Kogarah High School develops young people who are skilled learners, socially responsible and excited about their future. It has a long and proud history of student achievement, both academically (particularly in the areas of mathematics-including extension 1 and 2, physics, and chemistry), and on the sporting field. The school is also highly recognised for its Creative Arts program.Musical performances are held at the school and much enjoyment and learning occurs by those students who are members of the school choir and school band. Kogarah High School is a dynamic and visionary school which supports over 800 students. A significant number of these students are from a language background other than English. The dedicated, highly qualified and caring teaching staff is committed to providing all students with opportunities to have a positive learning experience and to succeed at school. Teachers work with their students in small classes on individualised and innovative learning plans in an environment that is genuinely supportive. The school has received numerous awards for excellence in preparing young people for the future - a Director General's Award, a School's First Award valued at $50000 and a Sydney Region Award. More than forty different national groups are represented in our student population making it a culturally rich community. The School hosts an Intensive English Centre which provides excellent support for students transitioning into a mainstream learning environment from overseas. International students are welcomed as the school is well equipped to support their needs. The International Student Coordinator ensures effective communication and involvement with families abroad. There have been many occasions recognising and celebrating the outstanding HSC results of these students. There is a Gifted and Talented program which is well supported by the partnership that exists between the school and the University of Sydney - known as the COMPASS PROJECT. This close association with the University Of Sydney provides enormous opportunities for students and teachers. The university student mentor and student leadership program has been particularly successful. The values of excellence, respect, responsibility, tolerance and care, underpin school life. High expectations and pride in personal best achievements are celebrated at Kogarah High School.
