Wee Waa High School

Students at Wee Waa High enjoy the individual care and attention associated with a small school. The school provides a diverse curriculum for both senior and junior students. A range of subjects caters for students intending to pursue tertiary education and a strong vocational education program meets student needs and interests in gaining industry qualifications. Students study TAFE Vocational Education courses from Year 9 allowing them to accelerate in some HSC courses. The Principal's Recommendation Scheme to several universities enhances the opportunities for students to select the university and course of their choice. A committed staff regularly provide after-hours coaching and support for our students. The school has a strong student wellbeing program based on links between home and school. Wee Waa High works under the agreed values of respect, improvement, commitment and honesty. The school offers a variety of extra-curricular activities in sport including robotics, sport, the arts and agriculture.

Maintenance

To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables

Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.

In late 2019, Wee Waa High School staff, students, and visitors began reporting various symptoms among including rashes, itchiness, sore eyes, headaches, breathing difficulties, and fatigue. To address these concerns, the NSW Department of Education commissioned Environmental Risk Sciences (EnRiskS) to conduct an independent health study. The following report provides details on the investigation, its findings, and recommendations for the department regarding the school's new build.
