New Asquith Boys and Asquith Girls High School intake areas for 2026
From 2026, Asquith Boys High School and Asquith Girls High School will become two standalone co-educational high schools with their own intake areas.
Asquith Boys High School will become Hornsby High School and Asquith Girls High School will become Asquith High School. The new names will take effect from Day 1 Term 1 2026.
In 2026, Years 7, 9 and 11 will be co-educational as aligned to the school’s new catchment areas. In 2027, each school will be fully co-educational for Years 7-12. Please refer to the questions below for more information.
Families with a child currently enrolled at their local designated school will retain the entitlement to enrol siblings at the same school, even if there are changes to the local intake area boundaries that make their home address out-of-area.
The new intake area is viewable via School Finder.
Frequently Asked Questions
My child is in Year 8 or Year 10 in 2026. Where should I enrol them?
In 2026, Years 7, 9 and 11 at Hornsby High School and Asquith High School will be co-educational as aligned to the school’s new catchment areas.
New students to the Hornsby High School and Asquith High School intake areas who are enrolling in Years 8 and 10 in 2026 will commence at the school based on its current single-sex designation. They would then transfer to the school for which they are local for 2027. Families will be supported to ensure a smooth and cost-free transition in these cases.
In 2027, each school will be fully co-educational for Years 7-12.
Will students who were enrolled prior to 2026 be required to move schools?
No student will be required to change schools.
While it is expected that most students will transition to their “local” site, a process will be established to enable students, who may have specific circumstances, to remain at their current school site.
What are the options now for parents who wish to consider a single-sex school?
Out-of-area enrolment will be considered in line with the department’s current policy. Recent changes to school boundaries and factors such as siblings are considered for out-of-area enrolment applications.
Other single-sex high school options for students include Cheltenham Girls High School and Epping Boys High School. The Selective Schools application process provides an avenue for students to be considered for Hornsby Girls High School and Normanhurst Boys High School.
How were the new intake areas developed?
The new intake areas have been developed through a consultative process with schools and communities. A number of relevant factors were considered to inform the development of the new Hornsby High School and Asquith High School intake areas including enrolment trends; opportunities to align with primary school local intake areas; public transport access; the size and utilisation rate of schools; the number of students living in each proposed intake area; and the physical capacity of schools to enrol students.
How will the NSW Government ensure the schools are fit for purpose?
The department will invest in upgrading infrastructure at the current sites to make the co-educational high schools the best possible learning environment for students.
Planned works include new signage, specialist classrooms and adjustments to the schools’ IT and administration systems, as well as toilet and changeroom facilities at both sites.
What will the schools be called?
A consultation process following departmental guidelines will take place with students, parents and staff, and the local NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), to determine the name of each co-educational school.
In line with the department’s policy, the school communities will also be consulted on issues such as uniform, logo and other important aspects of each of the schools.
