Cootamundra High School

Cootamundra is a country town of 6000 people located in the South West Slopes district of New South Wales. Cootamundra High School draws students from within the town and the surrounding villages of Stockinbingal, Wallendbeen, Bethungra and Muttama. The school has an established reputation of academic, sporting and cultural success and enjoys close ties with the community. Cootamundra High School seeks to provide a safe educational environment where the pursuit of excellence is fostered and where people are actively encouraged to pursue a life of value. Cootamundra High offers a broad curriculum incorporating an extensive and free VET program within the school and in conjunction with the local TAFE facilities. The opportunities for students to participate and excel in the many fields of education are continually encouraged with comprehensive welfare and educational support programs in existence. Cootamundra High School is part of the Low SES School Communities National Partnerships and as such is focussing on literacy, numeracy, transition from school to work and teacher professional development. Another significant initiative being undertaken is the implementation of the Positive Behaviour for Learning Program within the school. The school values underlying this program are: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and EXCELLENCE. These values will underpin on all aspects of the school's programs and culture. Cootamundra High School has very successful links with the local community through work experience and work placement programs, volunteer programs assisting community groups, blood donor programs and liaison with the support services within the local area.
