Albury High School

Albury High School is located in the centre of the regional city of Albury and is a large comprehensive, co-educational school with a current enrolment of 1044 students. Albury High School caters for a diverse range of students who are highly talented in the academic, sport and arts fields and the school provides a wide range of opportunities to cater for these gifted and talented students. As well as the consistently strong results in external exams such as the HSC and NAPLAN, students are encouraged to enter national writing, science and mathematics competitions. Students are encouraged to set high goals and develop the skills to achieve them. Albury High School has a proud sporting heritage and an enviable record in state sporting competitions and has won numerous regional and state championships over the years. Former students have gone on to excel at a national and international level. The school has a very strong welfare team whose aim is to ensure that all students feel safe, engage and and connected to the school, we employ a Youth Outreach Worker to support our initiatives in wellbeing.  Students are also encouraged to develop their personal and leadership skills through our Prefect body and our Student Representative Council and also through camps like Harrietville, Crossroads and other excursions. The school has strong links with specialist schools and educational groups in the local community including TAFE, Charles Sturt University, Latrobe University and our fellow government schools, especially the members of Crossing Point our Learning Community, which focuses on continuity of student learning and successful transition to high school. The school has a strong commitment to providing the support for students with a range of learning difficulties. Albury High School prides itself on giving all students equality of opportunity and encouraging them to achieve their full potential, no matter what the difficulty. The Learning Support Team meet regularly and focuses on early intervention and individual case management to ensure that all student learning needs are met. This team is supported by our Learning Support Officers who give great assistance to students with learning difficulties. Albury High School is at the forefront of technology in schools. The school has four fully equipped computing labs in the school with "pods" in many other areas. The ability to use lap tops and wireless connection in all classrooms is also a feature of the use of technology in learning in all subject areas. Students are encouraged to use technology to deliver projects, complete research and organise their notes and assignments. As a large comprehensive high school we offer a diverse range of subjects. All student interests are catered for. Elective subjects vary greatly and include; Languages, Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Industrial Technology, Agriculture, Computing, Commerce and Home Economics. Parents and the wider community are encouraged to participate in the life of our school through the Parents and Citizens Association and the School Council. These organisations provide invaluable support in the forward planning and development of the school. The relationship between the school and its parent organisations has always been a positive one. The school has developed strong links with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities in Albury and provides many activities to foster the development of our indigenous students through academic, cultural and sporting achievement. Student achievement is recognised through the “Proud and Deadly” Awards and NAIDOC Week celebrations. Albury High has a very strong commitment to multiculturalism and we have a significant number of students from an EALD background who are ably supported. Students have the opportunity to learn a variety of languages and participate in a wide range of cultural activities. Albury High regularly hosts visits from partner schools in Germany and Japan, broadening the outlook of our own students.
