Homebush West Public School is a cohesive, inclusive school that provides a dynamic, caring, safe learning environment for students from a diverse range of cultural, language and socio-economic backgrounds. Our purpose is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to be active, informed and successful in a changing world. Homebush West Public School continues to be a ‘Centre for Excellence’ through the Federal National Partnerships, Smarter Schools, Teacher Quality initiative, awarded ‘in recognition of sustained improved student outcomes achieved by the school through quality teaching practices’. As a ‘Centre for Excellence’ Homebush West leads and shares quality teaching practices across the wider education community. In 2012 Homebush West Public School was awarded a Regional Directors Award for Excellence. The school’s priorities include; Literacy and Numeracy, Curriculum and Assessment and 21st Century Learning. The school embeds a strong emphasis on the Creative and Performing Arts and healthy living with participation in regional and state instrumental, choral, and dance performances and the Live Life Well program. The school is committed to ensuring students are confident users of technology and continues to focus on the innovative use of technology across curriculum. Homebush West Public School has led implementation of the Australian Curriculum since being one of 100 trial schools three years ago. Homebush West is leading implementation of the NSW Board of Studies for Australian Curriculum in 2013. At Homebush West every student learns to play a musical instrument and the opportunity for tuition at school is available across a broad range of instruments. Homebush West offers a Middle School program for Year 5 and Year 6 students. Our students have a reputation for being well prepared and successful in high school. The school also offers a Community Language program in Chinese. The school participates in extensive extra-curricular and enrichment programs including; Maths Olympiad, Tournament of Minds, Mind Marathon, NSW Junior Chess League, Regional Debating, and PSSA interschool sport. Before and after school care and vacation care are available on site, provided by the YMCA. Also available after school are; French Classes, Active After School, Chinese Dance and Taekwondo. In 2012 the school celebrated its ‘Centenary’ and completed an extensive major capital works program that has seen new and refurbished buildings established across the site. The school values each child and seeks to tailor and personalise learning for students building a strong foundation for a life of learning. It enjoys an excellent reputation in the community and has strong partnerships with the local high schools and preschools.
