James Erskine Public School
James Erskine Public School is a caring school committed to the welfare of its community members. Our school purpose is to develop safe, respectful learners who are equipped with the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to be self-confident lifelong learners. We aim to develop the whole child by offering engaging quality activities which enrich the academic, social and physical well-being of all individuals. Students are encouraged to achieve and participate in a wide range of academic, social, cultural and sporting activities. Therefore, we provide many opportunities for students to explore and extend their learning experiences. Our school has strong community support. Many parents are involved in school activities and supportive of school programs. We enjoy a positive public image which we enhance through local publicity and our website. The school has a range of supportive programs to assist students' learning. These include English as a Second Language (ESL), Reading Recovery (RR) and Support Teacher Learning. We are continuing to develop our technology program, which has at its core the Information Technology Program with interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. The school participates in the Best Start Program for Kindergarten. This allows all Kindergarten children to be assessed prior to commencement of their first year in the areas of English and Maths. This allows their teachers to develop programs of work based around student needs in learning. The school is developing an extensive transition program with local preschools for Kindergarten and Erskine Park High School. This includes opportunities for science classes, library lessons, maths challenges and leadership programs for Years 5 and 6. James Erskine Public School continues to enjoy a great deal of success in extra-curricular activities. Opportunities are available in public speaking, debating, dance, art and sporting. The school has demonstrated its skilful students in dance performances at local and area level. We have a number of sporting teams achieving at local, district, regional and state level in various knockouts including athletics, cross country, netball, soccer, rugby league and touch. We regularly have students who have represented their community at district, region and state level in a range of sports.
