Rutherford Public School

Rutherford Public School serves a rapidly growing area in the western parts of Maitland. It is a physically attractive school and together parents and children work to maintain the grounds and gardens. The school offers wheelchair access to almost all of the buildings. Our school works with students, staff and community to strive towards creating a happy and safe place in which to work and play. The approximately 600 students range from Kindergarten to Year 6 and we also have an opportunity class for gifted and talented students in Years 5 and 6. The School Plan outlines three target areas for improvement. These are literacy, numeracy and student welfare. Currently, the school is supported by a specific Federal Government funded project to improve reading outcomes for all children. As well as the priority areas, the school has achieved excellent results in sport, dance, choir and school aerobics. During 2009, we have won state titles in Rugby League and state and national titles in school aerobics. Parent involvement includes an active P and C and School Council as well as regular support in classrooms and at whole-school activities.
