Chittaway Bay Public School
Chittaway Bay is a welcoming school located in a quiet bushland setting. The park-like grounds include a football field; tennis court; cricket nets; basketball and netball courts; several sets of fixed play equipment and a covered outdoor learning area (COLA) which provides plenty of shade.Our modern classrooms are all air-conditioned and have wireless access to the Internet. We also have a class-size computer lab. and a connected classroom. The school enjoys a positive reputation within the local and broader community and values strong and effective partnerships with the Parents and Citizens' Association and the Kuriwa Aboriginal Education Consultative Group and is an integral member of the Tuggerah Lakes Learning Community.We enjoy strong support from the local community and benefit from our partnership in the Tuggerah Lakes Learning Community where we share resources and expertise with six other local primary schools and three secondary schools. The AECG, Parents and staff work closely together to ensure a friendly, caring, learning environment where students feel happy, safe and successful. We place equal value on educational excellence and the development of good citizenship, so our programs and reward systems reflect a balance between the two. Our very dedicated teachers are committed to ongoing professional learning to ensure continued improvements in student learning outcomes. They go well beyond employment requirements to provide quality educational programs which meet the individual needs and interests of students in our mainstream classes and support classes for students with intellectual disabilities. The programs are supported by resources provided through our very active P and C. The school implements a number of porgrams to support student learning including the implementation of Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) in Kindergarten to Year 2 and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) in Stage 3. In addition to our emphasis on literacy and numeracy, we offer a variety of extra curricular opportunities that cater for students' individual interests and talents. These include dance; guitar; brass and woodwind band; piano keyboard; choir; swimming; team sports; writing workshops with our partner high school; environmental programs; and overnight excursions for Years 4 to 6. We are a Positve Behaviour for Learning School. Positive Behaviour for Learning ( PBL) is an evidence-based whole school process to improve learning outcomes for all students. PBL is a comprehensive, integrated approach to student wellbeing and behaviour. At Chittaway Bay Public School students are Safe, Responsible, Respectful and Engaged. In 2019, enrolments are 393 including approximately 10% Aboriginal students and 8% students with a language background other than English. We have fourteen mainstream classes and four support classes. The School Plan priority areas for 2018-2020 are Strong Learning, Strong Self and Strong Community.
