Mimosa Public School is a friendly, family focused school set in a magnificent bushland environment. We have an independently operated Long Day Care Centre on site and an excellent Before and After School Care facility. At Mimosa we are committed to the pursuit of high academic achievement in a safe, secure and caring learning environment. Our inclusive teaching and learning programs are diverse and challenge and inspire our students. Students, parents and staff work in partnership to create a vibrant learning community. Our staff is professional, experienced and dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for students. Student wellbeing is very important to our Mimosa community. As a Positive Behaviour for Learning school, positive reinforcement and the promotion of appropriate behaviour is practised in all school settings. Our successful Buddy Program provides leadership opportunities for our senior students as well as a nurturing environment for our Kindergarten students. Parents are warmly invited to participate in the life of the school, assisting with reading groups, numeracy groups, sport, excursions, camps, band, dance, canteen and in countless other ways. At Mimosa we have excellent classroom facilities, including interactive whiteboards in every classroom, along with laptop banks to support student learning. The refurbished library is equipped with an extensive collection of books to foster a love of reading in our students and provide a vibrant learning hub. At Mimosa we aim to provide exceptional learning opportunities for all, offering a wide variety of extra-curriuclar activities for our students. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in our annual Young Communicators competition to develop public speaking skills. Representatives from Mimosa also participate in additional competitions, including the Premier's Debating Competition and Maths Olympiad. Many of our students participate in enrichment programs both at Mimosa and at Davidson High School. We offer an outstanding performing arts program which includes bands, a string ensemble, dance groups, drama groups and choirs. Extensive sporting opportunities are also available to students. Interschool sports opportunities are available through the Primary School Sports Association competition in t-ball, softball, soccer, cricket, netball, AFL and eagle tag. All students complete a term of gymnastics with specialist teachers. Years K-2 participate in a ball skills program and an extensive gross motor program throughout the year. Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals are held annually. Mimosa PS is part of the Forest Network of schools. Our staff collaborate across our network to set high expectations and improve student learning outcomes. Teaching and learning programs are differentiated to cater to the wide range of learning abilities within our school, with support programs available to provide additional assistance for students requiring learning adjustments or extension. Our staff foster student engagement and ensure that every students is known, valued and cared for.
