Cartwright Public School
Cartwright Public School's vision is to create a dynamic school where every student learns, every teacher inspires and every leader motivates. Our school community is committed and relentless in its pursuit to provide an outstanding and robust curriculum that ensures holistic development of every student. Accordingly, our teaching and learning programs include innovative and enriched experiences that strengthen the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of our students. Cartwright Public School provides a safe and friendly environment where students know values like respect, resilience, cooperation, responsibility and kindness. These values are not only taught explicitly through social skills programs, but most importantly, by example. Our students often get complimented for their attitude and behaviour. We also aspire to instil in our students the understanding that we are global citizens and that each one of us has the responsibility of making this world a better and happier place. Every year, year 6 students hold a fundraising event and donate the proceeds towards a chosen charity. Being respectful and welcoming is part of the school ethos. Visitors to our school always comment and compliment staff and students for making them feel welcome. Our school also has a strong focus on continually improving our academic results. Our teaching and learning programs are research and evidence based. We place emphasis on direct instruction, explicit teaching and mastery of basic skills. A strong focus in 2014 and 2015 on writing led to a surge in our 2015 NAPLAN results where our school exceeded the state average. Cartwright Public School also provides extracurricular opportunities, both during school hours as well as after school hours. The school has a dance group, drumming group, an active sports program and also participates in the UNSW Tournament of the Minds. Additionally, the school offers after-school clubs. Our school is also part of the Community of Schools 2168 (COS 2168) which include other local schools in the area. Community and parent participation is always encouraged and welcomed. Please feel free to visit our school and see the wonderful teaching and learning that happens here every day.
