Allambie Heights Public School

Allambie Heights Public School provides a nurturing, resourceful and inspiring environment which enables each and every student to achieve their personal best. We are committed to the pursuit of high academic achievement in a safe, secure and caring learning environment. The programs offered are diverse and challenge and inspire our students. Students, parents, carers and staff work in partnership to create a vibrant learning community. Literacy, numeracy, technology and wellbeing are emphasised within learning programs. Each classroom contains an interactive whiteboard as part of everyday equipment and adds to other technology resources such as the utilised across the school, such as Bee Bots, green screen and Lego robotics. In addition, students and staff have access to banks of Chromebooks and iPads for all grades. These portable devices add another dimension to our quality teaching and learning programs as ICT is embedded into all areas of the curriculum. Students in year 5 and year 6 are a part of our 1:1 Chromebook program through our BYODD project. Our staff are professional, experienced and dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for students. Visible Learning  and evidenced informed teaching philosophies form a huge part of how we teach our students as we prepare them for success in the 21st century. A variety of public speaking opportunities exist at Allambie Heights. All students from Kindergarten-year 6 participate in our annual public speaking competition - this competition is held in term 3 each year. Representatives from Allambie Heights also participate in additional competitions, including the Premier's Debating Competition, the Premier's Reading Challenge, the Premier's Sporting Challenge, the Premier’s Spelling Bee and Maths Olympiad. School based enrichment programs focus on writing and mathematics extension beyond the classroom, while support staff implement programs Kindergarten-year 6 addressing needs in literacy and numeracy for selected students. Student wellbeing is very important to our school community. Positive reinforcement and recognition of appropriate behaviour is practised within the school. These expectations are underpinned by our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Our successful Buddy Program provides leadership opportunities for our senior students, as well as a nurturing environment for our Kindergarten students. Parents and carers are warmly invited to participate in school life. They assist with literacy groups, sport, excursions, camps, band, dance, canteen, fundraising and in many other ways. At Allambie Heights we offer an outstanding performing arts program. We have four bands, two dance groups, a percussion ensemble and two choirs. Extensive sporting opportunities are also available to students. Interschool sports opportunities are available through the PSSA competition in t-ball, softball, soccer, cricket, netball, AFL and eagle tag. All students complete a physical education program with specialist teachers. Swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals are held annually for students aged 8 years and older.
