Our learning community embraces a culture of diversity and leadership, in a safe and positive environment. The school has an enrolment of 608 students with 95% of students from language backgrounds other than English, approximately 20% of whom are newly arrived refugees. The school is committed to improving student outcomes in literacy and numeracy and receives additional targeted funding to support refugee students and new arrivals. Quality programs in the creative arts, sport and extra-curricular activities are features of the school. There are currently 26 classes, organised into stage teams, with three extension classes operating in 2019. Our primary students (4-6) are encouraged to bring their own device to support and enhance learning opportunities across key learning areas. The staff is comprised of both experienced and early career teachers who possess a wide range of professional experiences, expertise and backgrounds. The school has an active parent group, supported by a community liaison officer who coordinates a range of successful initiatives for the school community. The school uses equity loadings to operate a 2 day per week playgroup program, K-6 wellbeing mentor, K-6 interventionists, school innovation mentor and literacy and numeracy curriculum leaders. Commitment to professional learning and student learning is enhanced by the DoE’s Early Action for Success (EAfS) Phase 2 initiative. The school’s strategic directions 2018-2020 School Plan includes a whole school focus on future focused learning, curriculum and promoting school culture.
