Umina Beach Public School

Umina Beach Public School is a welcoming, well resourced school that offers abundant opportunities. The school is located close to Umina Beach which allows students to use the beach as an extension of their classroom when appropriate. Other nearby resources include a modern recreational precinct, football and soccer fields. Our happy and safe learning environment encourages each child to meet their potential. With 30 permanent classrooms all cabled for ICT use, students enjoy fully integrated, up-to-date information and communication technology. Year 4-6 students bring their own devices to school each day in order to better access 21st Century teaching and learning. Our video conferencing facilities allow students to engage in exciting new learning experiences beyond our school. In well managed classrooms, our experienced, dedicated, caring teachers provide excellent educational programs tailored to individual needs and talents. Our school motto Soar High promotes excellence in achievement for all. The school promotes citizenship, and responsibility providing opportunities for each child to develop their leadership and social skills. A school parliament  was established in 2014. Student move and vote on motions in the parliament on maters they care about. Students experiencing grief and loss are supported by our Seasons for Growth program which operates  each year and is conducted by our Chaplain. Umina Beach Public School develops the knowledge and values that our students need to lead successful and rewarding lives. Our students experience a balanced curriculum and have the opportunity to participate in whole school musical / dramatic productions and an art show where local artists and students exhibit their work side by side. The Big Bite, our school canteen, provides a healthy menu and has been awarded the Central Coast Healthy Canteen Award for the past 9 years.  Our student population of 760 students have access to abundant sporting and extra-curricular activities. In addition to a wide variety of sporting options students enjoy choir, debating, comedy club, two school bands, recorder groups,  and an environment group. Extension and enrichment programs are conducted in partnership with Brisbane Water Secondary College for our Stage 3 students. Our students are supported in their learning by a Principal, two Deputy Principals, four Assistant Principals and more than 40 teaching and office staff. Presently we have 30 classes of mixed ability. Ongoing professional development of staff ensures application of current best practice in all classrooms. Strong student welfare structures and the alignment of the use of resources to school priority areas ensure that students perform to their potential in national testing programs. The inclusive atmosphere of Umina Beach Public School allows all students access to the curriculum in all learning areas. Our teachers make accommodations and adjustments for students with special needs and our students support each other in their daily work at school. A vibrant Learning Support Team links teachers, students and support staff so that resources are used efficiently in supporting as many students as possible in their learning.  An active P & C supports the school in many ways and a School Council provides an avenue for input into school policy and decision making for parents staff and community members.
