Pendle Hill Public School
A commitment to quality teaching ensures all programs at Pendle Hill Public School promote excellence, equity and student engagement in a supportive and nurturing environment. Pendle Hill Public School is a small primary school in Western Sydney with a current enrolment of 350 students. We welcome all enrolments from our local drawing area. Our students are able to access a comprehensive preschool to Year 6 education beginning in our preschool or early intervention class. We aim to produce literate, numerate individuals equipped with the skills to be resilient, independent and adaptable lifelong learners. The promotion of creative and critical thinking skills is a priority in our classrooms. Student learning is supported by a range of specialist teachers including a support teacher learning, an English as Second Language teacher, a reading recovery teacher, a teacher/librarian, learning support officers, a counsellor and experienced classroom teachers. Programs for students requiring additional support are coordinated by the learning support team and include in class and withdrawal programs taught by specialist staff. Two multicategorical support classes provide up to fourteen places for K-6 students with moderate to high support needs. Extracurricular opportunities in a range of areas encourage the development of well rounded students. Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of sports, choir, music, dance, debating, public speaking and other special interest groups. The school is part of a diverse multicultural community. Over 33 cultural groups are represented in the school community and around 5% of our families are newly arrived from overseas. Our English as a second language teacher coordinates and implements classroom programs to support the particular needs of these students in consultation with their class teachers. We enjoy the support of our community and value their participation in school programs. Our P&C meets monthly and supports the school in a variety of ways. Strong student welfare programs and a comprehensive Positive Behaviour for Learning Program assists our students to become helpful, safe, respectful learners. A student representative council and a range of leadership opportunities encourage our students to become active and responsible school citizens.
