Quirindi Public School
Quirindi Public School is part of the Liverpool Plains Community of Schools and provides for the learning needs of approximately 360 students from Quirindi and the surrounding community. The school prides itself on providing a quality, student-centred and inclusive learning environment for all of its students, including a significant number of students of Aboriginal heritage who make up approximately 20% of the school population. Strong academic programs, excellent facilities in a picturesque setting and a highly dedicated staff offer the children at our school the very best opportunities for success. Our school caters for a diverse student population and provides an enrichment program as well as support for children through our Reading Recovery and Support Teacher program. We also cater for students with special needs in our IO Support Class. We enable our students to strive for and achieve excellence in a wide variety of extracurricular and school-based activities including public speaking, chess, debating, Tournament of Minds, dance, sports and our Active After-School communities program. At Quirindi Public School, students have opportunity to be involved in an extensive sporting program. Representative sport as well as school-based sport gives our students the opportunity to be involved in mainstream sports as well as the less common, including golf and lawn bowls. We have excellent representation in sports at Regional, State and even National level. We also consistently give our students the opportunity to participate in the Regional Dance Festival as well as Multicultural Public Speaking and the Australian Speech Communication Association examinations. Our well resourced school has an emphasis on the use of technology with students being able to access computers, laptops and Interactive Whiteboards to stimulate their learning. Current projects at the school involve the use and development of technology as part of Quality Teaching. Focus on Reading and Accelerated Literacy feature as specialist programs to enhance learning in Literacy across the school. Over the past two years Quirindi Public School has been selected as a Best Start Lighthouse school. This leadership initiative has resulted in a committed team of our early years teachers developing and sharing resources in a statewide forum as well as hosting teachers from other schools. The ongoing development of our Permaculture Garden enables all students across the school to learn about and value biodiversity and other sound environmental practices. Children tend to the chooks as well as care for their individual class gardens. We aim to incorporate environmental and sustainability education into the school curriculum so that the students will develop skills to investigate, solve issues and also develop attitudes of care and concern for the environment. At Quirindi Public, we seek to develop sound values within our students to help them become fine, well-rounded citizens.
