Muswellbrook South Public School provides enrichment programs for gifted and talented students and specialised support for students with learning difficulties. The school has three support classes which cater for the individual needs of students with disabilities. The school is part of The Early Action for Success program. The program aims to improve students' performance through a targeted approach. It involves the early identification of the level of attainment in literacy and numeracy of each individual student (K-2) and tailoring a specific program of learning to that student's needs. There is also an emphasis on the professional development of staff and a rigorous accountability of data collection and synopsis. The implementation of the L3 program in Kindergarten has contributed to the building of sound foundations in teaching and learning in reading for Kindergarten students. The school is strongly supported by a small but active P&C. Local Elders and the local AECG take an active interest in the school. There is a genuine focus where we value, respect and appreciate Aboriginal culture and student identity. The Prior to School Program, Warrae Wanni, contributes to the school readiness of Aboriginal and targeted students as well as actively encouraging parents to become involved in their child's education.
