South Coogee Public School
South Coogee Public School is an innovative and inclusive school with a true community spirit. We have an enrolment of 553 students organised into 23 classes (2018) with 37% of students from language backgrounds other than English, 10% from Australian Defence Force families (supported by a part time Defence School Transition Aide) and 4% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Stait Islander. The school has a strong commitment to making learning visible for all students and these principles are embedded into quality teaching and learning experiences provided by a dedicated and professional teaching team. We are developing learners that are self- aware, determined, reflective, curious and collaborative, supported through our effective learner qualities. Our school holds high expectations of all stakeholders in the learning process with a strong emphasis on engaging authentic student voice. Staff work together in Professional Learning Communities, dedicated to building teacher capacity, and improving student learning progress and outcomes at all levels. The school's academic performance in literacy and numeracy is strong and is supported by a broad educational offering with particular interests in sport and active lifestyles, visual and performing arts, science and technology and environmental sustainability. Our inclusive nurturing environment, in which strong student welfare practices underpin all parts of school life, ensures student wellbeing, happiness and resilience. We have valued partnerships with our parents and the wider community. Our community is actively involved in the life of the school and is dedicated to contributing to the enhancement of the school's programs.
