Young Public School
Young Public School serves the communities in the Young District. We are part of the Southern Tablelands school network. Our school is sited amongst beautiful gardens and has extensive play areas that cater for children of different ages. 21 mainstream classes and 2 support classes cater for the needs of approximately 540 students. The school is very well-resourced with a modern well- equipped library with extensive technology resources and an experienced librarian. We have a strong emphasis on technology to support and enhance teaching and learning, including computer rooms for whole-class or small group instruction, interactive whiteboards in all learning areas, as well as classroom computers. The school has received a Director-General's award for our student well-being program which is embedded into our school culture. We aspire to develop students' values of respect, empathy and resilience to produce lifelong learners and successful members of society. Young Public School enjoys strong community support and has a highly active and valued parent community. Playground equipment and fitness stations have recently been provided by P&C fundraising. The school has very high expectations of student progress and achievement. Our student achievements in national and international tests signify our commitment to ongoing student success. Our dedicated teachers provide evidence based quality teaching programs, such as L3 and Focus on Reading, to optimize student learning. Our teachers are committed to their own professional development to further enhance learning outcomes for students. Our students achieve excellence in academic, cultural and sporting endeavours. We have a junior and senior band program which works in partnership with the Young Regional School of Music. Other programs include: rock band, choir, a dance program, debating and public speaking programs, maths, science and writing extension classes. Students are supported by specific programs such as Reading Recovery and Multilit and individual learning adjustments are made for students on the basis of their learning needs. A very successful School Chaplaincy program has been operating for two years. The school is also committed to nurturing the physical health of our students. We participate in many PSSA sports, including rugby league, rugby union, soccer, basketball and netball. Our school sporting teams have enjoyed success at the highest levels and many of our students have competed individually at the State and National level. We also participate in the Live Life Well program and have a healthy canteen, vegetable garden and quality fitness programs.
