Taree Public School

Taree Public School, built in 1865, enjoys the reputation of being Taree's first established school.

Situated in the CBD, it draws students from the immediate township and extended areas. Taree Public School is a Connected Communities and Early Learning for Success School that works to improve the educational outcomes for all children. Providing quality teaching and differentiated learning, smaller class sizes, increased individual attention and a supportive and caring environment are the schools goals.

We provide educational experiences and technologies to develop skills for the future, diverse cultural and well-being programs,an extensive transition and orientation program with strong community and agency involvement.Taree Public School takes pride in its motto 'Excelsior' meaning 'High Quality'.

We aim to provide a balanced education for a diverse student population and encourage all students to strive for success. The school's Mission Statement is 'Learning together in a Caring Environment'. Teaching and learning about values include learning about being happy and safe at school and Bullying - No Way!

Our focus is on engaging students in a quality learning environment to assist them in achieving literacy and numeracy outcomes. We aim to provide a balanced curriculum, which will give students the skills they need to be tomorrow's global citizens.

The school runs a number of motivating programs. Bro-Speak is designed to give boys in Years 5-6 an opportunity to develop relationships, work as a team and enjoy cultural experiences. Sista-Speak provides girls in Years 5-6 with the opportunity to spend time with a number of the female Elders in the community to develop their cultural identity. Both programs are offered inclusively to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.

At Taree Public School the arts play a major part in supporting cultural knowledge across all curriculum areas. Students frequently perform for the community and the school assemblies are used to promote the achievements of the students.

Students at Taree Public School have Personalised Learning Plans, which are developed with parent/carer, teacher and student. These learning plans focus on simple, achievable goals for each student. These plans are reviewed termly.

Parents/carers and community members are always welcome at Taree Public School with emphasis placed on a "drop in for a cuppa policy". The school is supported by the Local Schools Reference Group and meetings are held each month. Taree Public School is known as the 'Friendly school'. Come along and see for yourself!
