West Ryde Public School is a warm, positive community centred school in which not only is academic excellence valued and pursued but also the development of healthy relationships, acceptance and tolerance. The particular focus of the school is: To strive for excellence and to care for all students in a dynamic learning environment. This statement is effectively demonstrated by the way in which all students learn harmoniously alongside each other. This is a significant feature of the school culture. Learning is promoted as a lifelong process and staff, parents and the community work to encourage children to develop initiative, become self-motivated learners who can work co-operatively, play enthusiastically and behave with consideration and mutual respect . The school provides a balanced comprehensive curriculum catering for differences in achievement and ability. A strong Literacy and Numeracy program is complemented by programs in community languages (Mandarin, Hindi and Korean), creative and practical arts, environmental education, peer support, public speaking and debating, fitness, dance, choir as well as specialist programs in gymnastics, music and chess. Highly qualified, experienced staff work effectively and collaboratively as a team to respond to the individual learning needs of all students. Our school has leading technology programs and facilities which include interactive whiteboards in all classrooms. West Ryde Public School actively encourages a close working relationship between parents, students and staff to enhance all aspects of learning. Many parents contribute their skills and support in a variety of areas including assistance with reading, maths groups, sport, library, music, excursions and fundraising as well as being active members of the P&C Committee. The school has a positive merit system and features behaviour management based on restorative practice. Students at West Ryde are caring, well behaved, responsible and co-operative. The staff, students and parents promote and value open and collaborative communication as a means for problem solving and school improvement.
