Narrandera Public School
Our school, Narrandera Public School (NPS), provides a personal and individual approach to learning for all children in partnership with families and community members. We know that it is the quality of our teaching and our positive personal relationships that have the most significant impact on improving our students' learning. We commit our energy and time to comprehensive professional learning for all staff members. Our successful Learning Support Team coordinates all learning programs with a strong emphasis on early learning initiatives, individual instruction, small group instruction and Gifted and Talented programs. Every student at NPS has a personal learning plan that is developed in friendly meetings with the students and their parents/caregivers. Our P&C and local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) are active partners allowing the very best educational opportunities for all children placed in our care. NPS has been identified as a high performing rural school when compared to similar schools and many aspects of our best practise featured in a published report. We are particularly proud of the learning and confidence growth of our students from Kindergarten to Year 6 based on a combination of thorough class assessment data, NAPLAN results, teacher and parent observations and ongoing feedback from the children. The school's transition programs for Kindergarten, Year 2 to 3, and Year 6 to 7 programs are seen as strong programs that support children's learning and well-being. Our school was the first school in the Riverina Region to implement Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) initiatives as the core to our highly successful student learning and well-being programs. We have since become a lead school in PBL as well as a key training resource for the region. We explicitly teach values of safety, respect, responsibility and learning and publicly recognise and celebrate positive behaviours for all our wonderful students. Our students excel in many areas of their school life. We love our music programs. Our musical groups feature choirs, guitars, ukuleles, dance, recorders and percussion and we are most sought-after by community groups to entertain audiences. Involvement in the NSW public school's 'School Spectacular' in 2012, 2013 and 2014 was a highlight for our dance group. We love our sport too. Of note, in softball we have celebrated Riverina girls' and boys' Championship titles and all children complete a 2-week intensive swimming school each year. We nurture our students as leaders of the future in our student-led School Parliament. The school boasts a mix of stunning heritage style buildings and modern educational facilities. Features include outstanding technology across the school with interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, ipads and notebooks able to be accessed in all classrooms, wireless internet access across the school site and a modern computer laboratory, a new school hall, newly renovated student toilet facilities, an expansive library, three functional sheltered areas, beautiful garden and play areas and comprehensive resources for all subjects.
