Mudgee Public School
Mudgee Public School has a proud tradition of providing a comprehensive education catering for students with a variety of learning needs. Our school mission statement, "Friendship with Learning", encapsulates the purpose of the school. Mudgee Public provides the opportunity for children to reach their full potential so that they may develop into informed, inquiring, caring and contributing community members. This can be seen in the extensive range of educational programs available to students. The quality learning environment and supportive school community at Mudgee Public enhances the academic and social opportunities for all students at the school. Our explicit and systematic teaching across the curriculum, especially in literacy and numeracy, is supported by specific programs such as "Focus on Reading", "L3", "Reading to Learn" and "Count Me In Too". Our Special Education Unit, currently consisting of 5 classes, caters for children with specific needs from mild to severe. Further programs exist in mainstream classes to assist children with learning needs. Throughout the school there are structures in place which extend children's ability across the curriculum, such as our senior class for high academic achievers. Technology is a strength of Mudgee Public with each classroom having an interactive whiteboard. Our Senior Band has won numerous awards, has toured on three occasions and has released two CDs. Our success in debating, public speaking and Tournament of the Minds has seen the school win at Regional and State level. Our sporting success has resulted in many children representing at both Regional and State level in swimming, athletics and in team sports. As a result of the diversity of opportunities that exist at Mudgee Public, the children develop as well-rounded young people, who value qualities such as tolerance and resilience. To achieve such outcomes for the children reflects the fact that Mudgee Public has a committed staff, teaching and non-teaching, who are passionate about their profession and dedicated to the children in their care. Ongoing professional development is an essential component of the school's budget and serves to strengthen the teaching practices in every classroom. The school community of Mudgee Public is not only made up of students and staff, for the Mudgee Public parent body plays an active role across the life of the school. From assisting in classrooms, helping with our sporting teams, volunteering in our school canteen, to participating in decision making regarding educational issues, the strong partnership between home and school at Mudgee Public plays a central role in the success of the school.
