Mortlake Public School

Mortlake Public School was established in 1887.It serves an established residential community with a school population of 414  students from Kindergarten to Year 6.The school occupies a whole suburban block and its parkland setting and well-maintained buildings provide an attractive, welcoming environment.The school has a highly respected reputation as well as a proud tradition of excellence and all round student performance.  The school is very proud of its literacy and numeracy programs and the high level of student achievement as measured in standardised tests such as NAPLAN.The school offers an extensive and broad education with high standards of literacy and numeracy which complements a balanced curriculum. Our excellent music program has an enviable reputation throughout the wider community as well as exemplary results in debating, public speaking, sporting events and performing arts. Mortlake Public School is committed to providing rich programs to develop skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration and technology to enable all students to reach their full potential educationally, socially and emotionally.The school has 48.5 % of our students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) who require additional support to assist them to develop English language proficiency.The parents and families of Mortlake Public School are partners in learning with the community being actively involved in key aspects of decision making and are valued contributors to many aspects of school life.All staff are committed professionals who place student learning at the centre of all professional learning and practice.Teachers, parents and students work collaboratively to ensure school is a safe, inclusive and happy place to be. An Outside of School Care facility has been operating in the school since the commencement of 2006.The school motto 'Excel by Effort' defines our philosophy in fostering independence and encouraging students to become responsible for their behaviour and learning.
