Hunters Hill Public School
Hunters Hill Public School has proudly served the Hunters Hill Community for 140 years. The only public primary school on the Hunters Hill Peninsula, the historic buildings are heritage listed and the playgrounds offer panoramic harbour views and beautiful treed surrounds. The first line of the school song, 'Where the waters meet and jacarandas bloom', summarises the significance of this ideal setting for learning and playing. The school has an enrolment of 350 students accommodated in fourteen classes, Kindergarten to Year 6. The school has recently completed building improvements to provide six new classrooms and a large Library. These facilities blend in well with the beautiful sandstone heritage classrooms unique to our school. The school has an enviable reputation for providing a rich learning environment where students are constantly challenged, extended and nurtured. The school aims to foster excellence in learning by catering to all students' needs and empowering children to be leaders of their learning and of their school. They are given every opportunity to grow and develop academically, personally, creatively and physically. High academic standards are achieved through the provision of quality educational programs in Literacy and Numeracy. Outstanding Science, HSIE, Performing and Visual Arts, Sport and Personal Development programs also exist. Innovative technologies are used to enhance student learning. Teachers are motivated and highly professional. All class teachers hold a certificate in gifted and talented education from UNSW (GERRIC), demonstrating their commitment to meet the needs of these students. There are specialist French, Sport, Music, Enrichment and Learning Support teachers. There is a strong focus on values-based education that nurtures strength, leadership and compassion in our students. Dignity for all individuals is expected and respected. The community values the caring ethos of the school and appreciates the extra-curricular activities provided for students. Senior and Junior Bands, Choirs, Recorder Ensemble, Drama and Dance groups and debating teams provide for skill and talent development. The school community is welcoming, vibrant and caring. Staff and parents work together to provide every opportunity for the children and encourage them in all endeavours. The school is extremely fortunate to have a motivated and dedicated P & C Association and School Council, who are active in all school affairs. After school activities such as cooking, jazz, hip-hop, art, fencing, ceramics and tai-kwon-do are provided by the P & C. After School Care is available for busy parents, with children cared for in a positive, active and nurturing environment. The whole school community is united by our pride in the school, its traditions and motto: AMITY, which is the French word for friendship.
