Girraween Public School

Our school plan for 2018-2020 has specific goals for 2018. The development of our 2019 school plan sets the platform for continued school growth.  2019 is our centenary year. We have a celebration day on Saturday, 10 August in the school grounds. High academic performance of our students will continue to be a priority, with an added emphasis of students using their skills and knowledge to solve problems and find solutions. We will develop the capacity of our staff and community through targetted professional learning. Our vision clarifies the priorities for our school plan; - Girraween P.S. will create 21st century learners through innovative, culturally sensitive teaching practice with a focus on project based learning. Girraween Public School has an enrolment of 1250 students.  Our enrolment includes 94% of students from a language background other than English. The school community includes; Tamil, Hindi, Asian and European cultural groups. Tamil and Hindi are taught as community languages. We have 3 Support classes catering for students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities. Staff have high expectations of students. There is a proactive student welfare program that promotes learning and the values of public education. We provide a wide range of extra curricular activities including; sport, choir, band, keyboards, computer coding and dance. Parents are very supportive of the school and have aspirations for their children to succeed. Our Parents and Citizens Association is involved school planning processes and continues to raise funds to improve the school learning environment.
