Coffs Harbour Public School is committed to providing a caring, inclusive and supportive educational environment. We strive to ensure personal success and the pursuit of individual excellence for all members of our learning community. This is fostered through quality teaching and learning programs in a climate of continuous improvement and professional response to student's needs. Our school population is presently 422 students comprising of 388 mainstream students and 34 Special Education students. 24% of our students are Aboriginal. 26 % are EALD students. We currently have 21 classes, 5 of which are special education classes. There is a strong literacy and numeracy focus in line with our Early Action for Success strategy. Recent initiatives have centred on a differentiated curriculum for all learners. The staff is committed to a learning community where classroom practice is focused, systematic and purposeful to provide high quality teaching and learning. The parent community are actively engaged in the school and have high expectations. Coffs Harbour Public School provides a safe, happy learning environment where talented and experienced teaching staff aim for excellent learning outcomes for students. The school is located in park-like grounds in the heart of Coffs Harbour. This location results in students having ready access to the many wonderful resources in our community. Coffs Harbour Public School is committed to providing an all-round quality education working in close partnerships with the families of our students. Coffs Harbour Public School also offers an extensive special education unit consisting of five classes. The Coffs Harbour Public School community has worked hard to raise enough money to purchase our own bus, thereby providing even more opportunities for students to access local resources and activities. Opportunities are provided for students to be confident and creative, to have a positive attitude towards learning and to strive for excellence. Students are encouraged to show respect for themselves and others and to accept responsibility for their actions. A wide variety of teaching and learning programs support students in their academic, sporting, performing arts and personal and physical development. Talented students are extended through specialised programs and enrichment classes. These include dance, technology, chess, guitar, debating, spelling, choir and drama. Coffs Harbour Public School also offers a fully funded breakfast program to support its students. All students have access in their classrooms to banks of computers, laptops, interactive whiteboards and ipads. Students with learning difficulties are assisted by specialist teachers. Specialist classes and staff support students with intellectual and multiple disabilities within the Coffs Harbour area. Coffs Harbour Public School receives additional funding through the Resource Allocation Model in line with the New South Wales Government's Local Schools Local Decisions Reform. This enables the school to implement additional programs for our students as part of the schools strategic management plan in consultation with the wider school community. Coffs Harbour Public school is a member of the Lighthouse Community of Schools. These schools are involved in a range of activities where the students are able to work collaboratively with students and staff from other schools.
