Cessnock West Public School aims to provide innovative, quality education in a caring environment and is situated in the lower Hunter Valley town of Cessnock. Our current school enrolment is 413. At Cessnock West Public School we see the individual child as being the focus of our educational programs, with the development of Future focused Learning skills, REAL( Rigorous, Engaging, Authentic Learning) projects, self-discipline and love of learning a high priority. The core values of the school are Respect, Responsibility and Learning. Cessnock West Public School is an Early Action for Success school and students requiring intervention are identified early and receive the appropriate support. The school funds Speech and Occupational therapy sessions at school for children assessed as needing support. Educational programs at our school embed literacy and numeracy into other key learning areas forming an integrated and holistic approach to learning. The school provides opportunities for staff and students to explore the many creative and sporting possibilities in the area. The school has established a working relationship with our local radio station and operates an in-house radio program run by students during lunchtime. We are an environmentally friendly school. A group of students work together in FOE (Friends of the Environment) with community volunteers to promote conservation and maintain gardens. Cessnock West PS encourages parents and the broader community to become partners in the education and development of our students. The Opportunity Class provides extension programs for gifted and talented students. Cessnock West has formed a partnership with the University of Newcastle and operates the Children's University program for  Stage 2 and Stage 3 students.
