Brookvale Public School

Brookvale Public School has been on the same site since 1902 and has a strong focus on providing high quality, inclusive public education in a small-school setting. We enjoy the advantages of being a small school, including knowing each of our students very well and having a deep understanding of their unique personalities and individual needs. There is an emphasis on personalised learning designed to meet the needs of all students in a safe, happy and supportive environment. The school is situated in the heart of Brookvale and is a member of the Northern Beaches Learning Alliance. The school community, including parents and volunteers, works closely and collaboratively to ensure that each child achieves their personal best. Our highly qualified and talented staff members are committed to ensuring that each student reaches their academic potential, whilst nurturing and developing the self-esteem, confidence and resilience that is necessary to succeed in our constantly changing world. This occurs through outstanding student-centred teaching, strong student wellbeing programs and high expectations. All curriculum subjects are differentiated to meet the range of abilities that are present in each class, incorporating the dimensions and elements of the NSW Quality Teaching framework. Our Learning Support Team ensures that successful early intervention measures are implemented for students experiencing learning difficulties, and that extension and enrichment programs are tailored to the interests and abilities of our gifted and talented students, ensuring that their high potential is fully realised. We achieve excellent growth between Years 3 and 5 in NAPLAN test scores and the majority of entrants in University of NSW Maths and English competitions are awarded credits, distinctions and high distinctions. At Brookvale we are proud of our strength in the important area of student wellbeing. Underpinning everything we do is a commitment to the core values of public education - integrity, excellence, respect, responsibility, co-operation, participation, care, fairness and democracy. Our programs including PBEL, Buddies, Circle Time and Student Leadership all contribute to a harmonious school environment where standards in behaviour are very high and a happy, hard-working and productive atmosphere is evident. We compete in PSSA soccer, netball and Eagletag competitions and our students have represented the school at regional and state level. In Term 4 each year swimming lessons are offered to students in Kindergarten to Year 4, and Surf Life Saving lessons are offered to Years 5 and 6. We have a training band, a concert band, musical instrument tuition, an award-winning choir, several competitive dance groups including a boys hip-hop group, programs in gymnastics and sport, and all students K-6 are envolved in technology lessons taught by a specialised technology teacher . Our students and their families come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and we value the diversity and richness that this adds to our learning community. We have an active and supportive P&C association that meets regularly to plan fundraising events and maintain the welcoming and friendly community spirit that makes our school unique. Our students have ample space for active play in the large, well-planned play areas with two adventure playgrounds, an environmental area with a frog pond and vegetable gardens, a field for sports and a covered multi-purpose games court. Other on-site facilities include a school-operated canteen serving home cooked specials each day and a privately run early childhood centre offering before and after school care, vacation care and long day care. We also have a car park to enable parents to safely drop off and pick up their children. Please contact us for further information or to arrange a school tour with the Principal.
