Ocean Shores Public School

Ocean Shores Public School is a modern, well equipped school in a beautiful bushland setting. Students are taught by a professional and experienced teaching staff and supported by wonderful teacher aides, a highly skilled office management team, and a supportive and involved parent body. Ocean Shores Public School was officially opened in 1993 following the closure/relocation of Billinudgel Public School. The school has 12 permanent classrooms so is unable to accept out of zone enrolments in mainstream classrooms. Adherence to the NSW Department of Education's Enrolment Policy has seen a decline in enrolments in recent years. There are currently three support classes for students with an autism diagnosis, moderate intellectual disability or physical disability in addition to the 12 mainstream classrooms. Current enrolment is 315 with 165 male students and 150 female students. The community has high expectations in regard to academic performance and also places high value on student wellbeing, creative arts and environmental education.  Student performance in literacy is strong as evidenced by measures such as NAPLAN and internal assessments. Current data shows that performance of students has been particularly strengthened since the introduction of the Literacy, Learning and Language (L3) program and we look to expand this further. Mathematics performance is consistently above state averages. All members of staff are committed and enthusiastic professionals who are open to exploring better ways of working and connecting with each other and the school community. The school will continue to work with its community to meet the diverse needs of its students. Our 2018-2020 strategic directions are: Happy and successful students focusing on the importance of all students having access to a wide range of school programs and supports to meet their varied needs. We will support our students to be happy, confident and resilient to achieve success in all facets of their lives. Children will be encouraged to develop a healthy and balanced approach to cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Inspired teaching and learning focusing on the importance of teacher quality to ensure inspired learning for students occurs across settings. We want all members of our school community to be motivated and supported to learn in an inclusive, purposeful, engaging and enjoyable environment. Inter-connected community focusing on the integral role of the community to collaboratively and cooperatively establish a team approach to achieve best possible outcomes and growth for all students. We value strong and meaningful connections locally, nationally and globally. We believe it is particularly important to prepare our students to positively contribute to our changing local and global worlds.
