Melrose Park Public School redevelopment and new public preschool

We are completing the documentation required for planning applications. Once we receive development approval and appoint a building contractor, we will establish a timeline for construction. We will keep the community updated as we move through these next steps.

Melrose Park Public School redevelopment will be finished and operational for Day 1, Term 1 2027.

The school will cater for 750 students.

Yes. A temporary school will be installed on the current Melrose Park Public School site. The construction site will be separated by hoarding and fencing and will be out of bounds to students and staff.

 We will continue to update the community with more information including the location of the temporary school and dates once plans are finalised.

Noise and dust controls are outlined via the authority approval conditions of consent. Our contractors must comply with these conditions and any other conditions which form part of the works contract with respect to noise and dust levels during construction.

The department will work closely with the school leadership and the appointed contractor to ensure construction impacts to the school and wider community are minimised.

The project team will try and retain the existing uniform shop, if possible, as part of the temporary school. Further plans will be communicated with the school in early 2025.

The impact of the construction works on the existing pick up and drop off locations along Wharf Road is yet to be determined. Once our construction contractor is appointed, they will work closely with the project team and school Principal to determine if any changes will be necessary.
