This school’s intake area is changing
At times it is necessary for the department to adjust a school’s local enrolment area. Intake area changes are happening to better balance enrolments, utilisation of assets and capacity across schools, ensuring students continue to have access to high-quality public education.
From Term 1 2026, James Cook Boys Technology High School and Moorefield Girls High School will transition to be a new co-educational school for Year 7-12.
The new intake area will be comprised of the feeder primary school intake areas of Arncliffe Public School (PS), Brighton-le-Sands PS, Kyeemagh PS and the eastern half of the Carlton South PS intake area. The changes affect new enrolment applications for 2026.
The new intake areas have been developed through a consultative process with schools and communities. Several factors were considered to inform the development of the new intake areas including enrolment trends; public transport access; the size and utilisation rate of co-educational high schools; the number of students living in each proposed intake area; the proportion of students who historically enrol in either single-sex or co-educational schools; opportunities to align with primary school intake areas; and the capacity of co-educational schools to enrol students.
Strong support was found for co-educational schooling with 65% of primary school parents and carers in the area preferring this setting.
The new intake area is viewable via School Finder .
I have a child already attending this school. Can they stay there if I am now in a different school’s intake area?
Yes, they can. There is no change for students already attending this school.
I have a child already attending this school. Can I enrol their sibling/s at the same school?
Siblings of currently enrolled students will be assessed under the departments enrolment policy .
Families with a child currently enrolled at their assigned local school will retain the ability to enrol siblings at the same school, even if there are changes to the intake area boundaries that make their home address out-of-area.
How are new intake areas developed?
Many factors are considered to inform the development of new intake areas for example:
- enrolment trends
- opportunities to align with primary school local intake areas
- public transport access
- the size and utilisation rate of schools
- the number of students living in each proposed intake area
- and the physical capacity of schools to enrol students

Maintenance
To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.

Demountables
Demountables have been part of the NSW education system for many decades and will continue to be used across the state. Demountable classrooms are modern, air-conditioned rooms that provide students and teaching staff with excellent quality facilities. The learning spaces have the same range of technology that is available in permanent spaces. We review school accommodation needs each year, looking at changing enrolment patterns and other factors to prepare for the upcoming school year. This helps to identify schools that need new demountables and schools where they can removed. Most demountable movement takes place between October and February and we report our annual demountable statistics each April. Additional demountable installations can occur outside this window to support capital works and maintenance projects in schools or emergency responses to natural disasters.
