This school has a new intake area
As communities grow and change, the department is working to deliver new infrastructure in this area and needs to adjust local enrolment intake areas. This helps keep enrolments balanced across schools and make sure every student can access high-quality public education in well-resourced, supportive learning environments.
The school is on track to open for Year 7 and 8 students in Term 1 2027. This means that in 2028, the school will cater for Year 7, 8 and 9, and in 2029 will cater for Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 and so on. The new high school will see its first Year 7-12 cohort in 2031. Students in older year groups will continue to be accommodated at other local high schools.
The new intake area is viewable via School Finder .
FAQs
I live in the intake area for the new school and have a child already attending Year 9 to Year 11 at our current local high school. Can I enrol them at the new school?
The school will open for Year 7 and Year 8 students in 2027. Students in older year groups will continue to be accommodated at other local high schools.
This staggered enrolment process is normal for new high schools across the state. The process of growing a school allows adequate numbers of students and teaching staff to deliver a full curriculum based on the elective preferences of the students at the school. The gradual process allows the school to develop the culture, while establishing systems and processes in consultation with key stakeholders to reflect the school’s growing identity.
I have a child already attending our current local high school. Can I enrol their sibling/s at the same school even if I am in area for the new school?
Siblings of currently enrolled students will be assessed under the departments enrolment policy .
Families with a child currently enrolled at their assigned local school will retain the ability to enrol siblings at the same school, even if there are changes to the intake area boundaries that make their home address out-of-area.

How are new intake areas developed?
Many factors are considered to inform the development of new intake areas, for example:
· enrolment trends
· opportunities to align with primary school local intake areas
· public transport access
· the size and utilisation rate of schools
· the number of students living in each proposed intake area
New school: New high school for Medowie
As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the NSW Budget is delivering $2.1 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education. This project will deliver a new high school for the growing community in Medowie. This is in addition to upgrades for Irrawang High School and Hunter River High School. Enrol now Earlier this year, we invited the community to have their say on the new Medowie High School. More than 200 parents, students, staff and community members answered questions about values, uniform, logo, operating hours, and extracurricular activities. We are now in the process of designing the logo and uniform. Both will feature a minimalist yet modern design with a neutral colour palette We will keep the community informed as these items progress.

Maintenance
To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.
